ELIGIBILITY
The tournament is open to League and Premier teams. RECREATIONAL TEAMS AND PLAYERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.
USYS Sanctioned Tournament - The DISCOVERY CUP is a USYS-sanctioned tournament through the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA). All teams must be affiliated with either USYS or US Club Soccer and must be in good standing. Age Group divisions are for the 2008/2009 seasonal year.
US Club Soccer - US Club Soccer teams are invited to apply!
Application and Fees - a separate online application for each team must be submitted by September 1, 2008 along with full payment. Entry fees are:
· $600 for U11-U12 (8v8)
· $800 for U13-U19 (11v11)

An administrative fee of $25.00 will be charged for teams withdrawing prior to acceptance.
Checks MUST BE POSTMARKED by SEPTEMBER 1, 2008!
Notice of acceptance and non-acceptance will be sent on or about September 10, 2008.
Age Group/Length of Games - The USYS seasonal year begins on September 1st of each year. Age Groups and corresponding birth dates for the 2008/2009 seasonal year are:
· U11 (8v8) 8/1/97-7/31/98 - 50 minutes
· U12 (8v8) 8/1/96-7/31/97 - 50 minutes
· U13 8/1/95-7/31/96 - 60 minutes
· U14 8/1/94-7/31/95 - 60 minutes
· U15 8/1/93-7/31/94 - 70 minutes
· U16 8/1/92-7/31/93 - 70 minutes
· U17 8/1/91-7/31/92 - 80 minutes
· U19 8/1/89-7/31/91 - 80 minutes
Tournament Roster/Guest Player Policy - Maximum number of players on a team’s tournament roster is 14 for U11-U12; 18 for U13-U15; 22 for U16-U19.
U11 and U12 teams requesting to use guest players may have no more than 14 players, whose number may include up to 3 guest players; U13-U15 teams may have no more than 18 players, whose number may include up to 3 guest players; U16-U19 teams requesting to use guest players may have no more than 22 players, whose number may include up to 3 guest players.
Format/Competition/Rules/Awards - The tournament offers divisions for U11 through U19 boys and girls.
· Minimum of three games is guaranteed.
· Qualifying matches will be played Saturday and Sunday. Playoff rounds may be played on Monday.
· 8 v 8 will be played on 50x80 fields with 6x18 goals.
All games shall be played in accordance with FIFA Laws, except as specifically modified by Tournament Rules. A complete set of rules is posted on the tournament website.
Individual player trophies will be presented to all champions and finalists.
Referees - USSF three man referee system will be used for all U13 through U19 games (11v11 format).
Registration - Team registration will be from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10th at the DISCOVERY Sports Center located at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Certified 2008/2009 rosters, player passes, NON-notarized medical release forms and Permission to Travel forms (Only teams from outside Region I, NJ and CT teams need permission to travel forms) will be checked at this time. All players must have a player pass for 2008/2009 approved by a duly authorized registrar of their state association or US Club Soccer.
Hotel Accommodations - Out-of-state teams requiring overnight hotel accommodations are
required to make their reservations thru the
Conference and Visitors Bureau of Montgomery County. This will ensure that teams receive the highest quality service during the tournament. Please check the link of the tournament website to make reservations.
Tournament Cancellation Policy - In the event the entire tournament is cancelled, the tournament’s policy is to refund entry fees after all incurred costs are covered.
